The Forest Simplicity Collection

Each year when I start to design a new collection of planner printables, I always start with the dated calendars. I look over all your comments and requests and try to choose something that I hope will work well for everyone.

This year, I opted to try my hand at something that’s been often requested – a neutral design. It was a little outside my comfort zone and I struggled with it for a while. Until I was taking my dogs for a walk along our walking trails and realized that the forest was the perfect inspiration I needed. The various shades of green and brown popped against the snow. And as soon as we got home I got straight to work designing the collection I’m calling, Forest Simplicity.

The different shades of green were chosen carefully and used sparingly. The shades of brown were chosen to ground the design and bring in that very neutral feel. I kept the design to a minimal to make it as ink friendly as I could.

Adding some colour for those that like it, while keeping it neutral it to work with stickers, highlighters, and other ephemera that people like to use to decorate their planners, was tricky. I wanted ink to be able to pop so that your plans were lost on the page.

I truly do hope that you enjoy using these calendars as much as I enjoyed designing them.

Now I’ll stop my rambling so you can check out the 2023 calendar printables for yourself.

A Note About The 2023 Calendar Printables

There have been a few changes made to the calendars this year that I want to quickly highlight before you download your copies.

READ THIS FIRST

  • Year on a Page Calendars are now included with each dated calendar. If you would like just the Year on a Page, just pick one of the calendars below and print only page one.
  • The half-size calendars have been redesigned to print double-sided more easily. Be sure to read the printing instructions.
  • The half-size calendars can now also be folded in half after printing to create a notebook you can use as is or add to a traveler’s notebook.

Now that we’ve covered that – let’s jump right to the printables.

Two Pages per Month 2023 Calendars

Year after year, this layout continues to be the most popular. The two page layout offers more room for planning and the lined sections offer plenty of extra space for notes and reminders.

As always, you get to choose from a Sunday or Monday start.

There are no special printing instructions for the letter-size version. If your printer has a duplex option, just be sure to select the Long-Edge Binding or Flip on the Long-Edge option.

Printing the half-size version is a little different than in the past couple of years. This year I have them designed on letter paper like I used to. However, the layout of the pages was done so that you can still create a booklet from them if you’d like.

Printing Instructions for the Half-Size Two Pages per Month Calendars

For those who want to print them double-sided.

  1. Open the file in your PDF reader.
  2. Select Two-Sided or Double Sided if you have a duplexer, or select Odd Pages if you manually flip.
  3. If your printer has a duplexer, be sure that Short-Edge binding or Flip on Short Edge is selected.
  4. Print.
  5. If you need to manually flip your pages, do that now and the print Even Pages.
  6. Cut in half and punch as normal OR fold in half to create a booklet.

For those that want to print them single-sided, you just need to press print. Cut and punch as normal.

Single Page per Month 2023 Calendars

Even though this layout isn’t as popular as the other, I include it every year because I know there are still lots of people out there who like to use them. Personally, use both layouts. I love the versatility that the single page per month calendar brings to my planning.

They make wonderful meal planners, work out trackers, project planners and more. The half letter size fit in most lockers making them ideal for students or anyone who has a locker at work or the gym.

And they too come in your choice of Sunday or Monday start.

Just like the two pages per month layout, there are no special printing instructions for the letter-size version. If your printer has a duplex option, just be sure to select the Long-Edge Binding or Flip on the Long-Edge option.

Printing Instructions for the Half-Size Single Page per Month Calendars

These print the same as the two-page ones, but I’ll share the instructions here too.

  2. hi Alli sorry to point it out but the half size Monday start 2023 calendar has a mistake in the February moth set up. it’s actually the same for both sides instead of the entire month. I’m glad my printer messed it up cuz either way I need to print it again. 🤣when you can I’d love to come back and get the revised version. thanks a bunch girly you are a life saver for planning printables.

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Lorelei, thank you so much for letting me know about that. I’m so sorry about this. I’m fixing it right now and I’ll replace it with the corrected one. Again, I’m so sorry for the mix up.

  3. Heather Williams says:

I would love to see daily and weekly pages that are in landscape. The whole page itself, not just the boxes. I absolutely hate having to take the page out to write on it, but my hand always bumps into whatever binding my printables are in. I have adapted them to work the way they are, but that would make things so much easier! Also, lined monthly calendars. I am a stickler for my notes being straight on the calendar and wide open boxes leave me so much room for error. You have been my go to for many years! I just wondered if you had anything like this planned? Or could have planned? It would mean the world! Thank you for all you do!

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Heather, I’m adding this request to my list. If you have the time and if you want, shoot me an email with more details about what sort of layout you’d like to see (how you would like the weeks and daily pages set up) and I’ll try to create those for you.

  4. I love the colors and layouts for this collection! Do you have (or have plans to add) a coordinating page just for notes?

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Terri, I do. I’m actually going to make three, a lined set, dot grid set, and a square grid set. They should be out by the end of November.

  5. Not a big deal, but it looks like the single page, half-size, Monday-start one has the year-on-a-page as the last half of 2022 and first half of 2023, instead of all of 2023. Other than that, love the format!

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Erin, thank you so much for letting me know about that. I’m not sure how it slipped past me, but it’s been fixed. You might need to clear your cache, but the correct year on a page is on there now. I’m so sorry for the mix up. I’m thrilled that you’re liking the format.

  6. Thank you very much for sharing this calendar! I really love it!

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

  8. Have been using your calendars for years and have loved them! Glad the boxes and dates are dark this year as, now that I am older, my eyesight is changing. Really like the Forest Simplicity colors and the lines along the side and bottom are helpful. Thanks so much for making your work accessible to all! (I always use the 2 page, full size, Sunday start calendar.)

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Thank you so much for your sweet words Jennifer. I’m thrilled that you’re enjoying the calendars.

  9. Alli! I love all your calendars and planners! I use them for work and home and they make it so easy for me to get organized! The fact that you create new planners every year and share them for free is amazing!! Quick question, do you ever customize planners for individuals (like for a cost:)? I would love a mixture of the 2 pages/month calendar and the monthly planner and review, but can’t get them to print combined front and back the way I need them to. Thanks again!

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Julie, thank you so much for your kind words. If you’d like to send me an email I’ll be happy to help you out with this.

  10. Hey Alli, I love your calendars! I noticed something with the 2023 (1 month per page) calendar…April doesn’t have 31 days… May starts on the right day of the week though. Thanks.

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi April, thank you so much for your kind words and for the feedback. I’ll see about getting that fixed as soon as I can. I’m so sorry about that.

  11. Hi, Alli! I have never met a person who would be so reverent about the design of things. Well done you! I really like that there are different formats and different start of the week. It is very convenient for both personal and business use.

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Thank you so much for your kind words Angela, I’m happy that you like the designs and all the options. I hope you find them helpful.

  12. First of all you are AMAZING. The amount of time I spent searching for the very specific calendar layout I wanted was quite shameful. It seems like a I a minority in wanting vertical single months. I am absolutely loving the forest theme, green is my color and simple is important. I’m wondering if you or someone else in the comments could please help me though. I want a half page vertical monthly calendar. I saw that you have those, but I am really not a fan of the blue and triangles. I need something more simple for my squirrel brain. Is there a
    2023
    monthly
    vertical
    half page
calendar in the forest simplicity available that I may be missed? I’m planning on making a monthly overview in my A5 notebook and since I fold it over I need it all just on one page. Again, you are incredible for offering these very well thought out printables.

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Rose, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I currently don’t have something like that, but if you would like, you can send me an email and I’ll see what I can do to help you out.

  13. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just spent hours trying to find or create some planner inserts…and then I came across your site with exactly what I wanted, and for free! Off to explore the rest of your site.

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

You’re very welcome Jessie! I’m happy you came across my site and were able to find something that you needed. I hope you enjoy the printables.

  14. Sara Bass says:

Hello ~ Just wondering when your 24 printable calendar will be ready.

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Sara, they’re coming very soon. I’m hoping no later than the 12th of September.

  15. Thank you so much for these calendars but can you please share 2024 printable calendars??

    1. ScatteredSquirrel says:

Hi Kelly, I’m thrilled that you like these ones. The 2024 calendars can be found on the blog page or by selecting the 2024 Planner tab on the menu bar.
