Plan Your Year: An E-Book Review

I am super excited about today’s review. Homeschooling is becoming more and more popular as the years go by. It’s a great alternative to traditional classroom based learning and it can be a wonderful way to meet your child’s educational needs in a way that works best for them. And while it can be wonderful, there is an awful lot of hard work that goes into setting up for a succesful homeschool year. We are not a homeschool family, though my husband and I revisit and review the subject often, as our boys educational needs grow and change. One of my biggest concerns with homeschooling our boys is how on earth am I supposed to plan an entire school year? I mean, I’m not a teacher,I wouldn’t have the faintest idea of where to even start. Well, let me tell you after reading Pam’s book Plan Your Year: Homeschool Planning for Purpose and Peace I’ve crossed that concern off the list.
This book is beautifully done. Though it’s a ‘how to’ book, there is just the right amount of personal touches and anecdotes to make it a fun book to read. Plan Your Year is broken into ten different sections to help make the daunting task of planning a year easier. Pam walks your through each section, sharing tips and ideas that have worked for her, and she also weaves in other ideas and concepts that works for others. She explores many different options at each stage of the planning process, making this a book that isn’t about how to plan a year like she does, but how to plan a year in a way that works for YOU! And as you all know, I’m a HUGE fan in finding the system or plan that works for you, even if it is a little outside the normal box.
Pam has done a wonderful job of adding multi-media components to her books. There are videos to watch, examples of how real people have used her resources to help plan a year that works for them, and even links to blog posts and resources that talk about different ways to do the same step. For me, those elements took this book from a simple ‘how to’ to a fantastic resource for all your homeschool planning needs. She’s even taken it a whole step further and included printable planner pages to help you along the way!
Yes my friends, this is a powerhouse homeschool planning resource. Plan Your Year: Homeschool Planning for Purpose and Peace gives you a place to start, includes resources, real world examples and a whole printable planner to help you on your way. Whether you’ve been homeschooling for a while, just starting, or even just thinking about starting then I highly recommend adding this book to your library. It will serve you well over the years.
Before I sign off, I just wanted to send out a HUGE thank you to Pam for sending me a copy of this book to review. First, I was TOTALLY psyched to get an advance copy. (cross one item off my ‘I wish’ list) and secondly I was totally unprepared for how I would feel reading this book. It was an uplifting read and I really wasn’t expecting to come away from reading it feeling like I could totally handle planning a homeschool year. Homeschooling is huge responsibility, and as I said, one of my biggest concerns has always been being able to plan for a whole year. While at this point in our boy’s education, classroom based learning is the best choice for them, I know that could change down the road, and if I didn’t already have this book in my library, I would be adding it. In fact, I’m seriously thinking that this might make a great gift idea for some of my homeschooling friends. 🙂
