{Day 19} Indoor Home Maintenance Checklists
Welcome to Day 19 of the 31 Days 31 Printables series. If you’re just joining us, I’m spending the whole month of October sharing at least one free printable each day. Right now I’m working on updating my home management binder printables. When I first made my HMB printables I was thinking more about creating printables that were functional, and I was allowing my creative side room to play. One of the things I really wished I had done then, was to make them all look like they were part of a set, and so that’s what I’m doing. Today I’m tackling the Indoor Home Maintenance checklist printable.
In case you missed yesterday’s post with the Room by Room Cleaning Checklists, here’s a quote from the request I was working from.
Do you have blank “Inside Management” and “Room by Room” printables? I live in an apartment, and about half of the pre-entered items don’t apply.
Blank Room by Room Checklist? Check!
Blank Indoor Home Maintenance Checklist? You bet!
Indoor Home Maintenance Checklists
The indoor home maintenance checklist was created to keep track of all those home maintenance jobs that only need to be done once every few months, such as flipping or rotating your mattresses and checking the smoke detectors and CO2 monitors. I sat down and figured out how often I need to do certain things, and then I created a schedule that repeats throughout the year. In my opinion, a home management binder/notebook/system should take away the need to think about things. When I do up my calendar at the beginning of each month I check this checklist and pick a day or two where we have nothing going on to get them done.
Not having to think about these things, makes it so much easier to just do them. I’m not wasting time trying to remember when I last pulled out the fridge, and I’m certainly not wasting time cleaning behind the fridge for the second month in a row while completely forgetting about cleaning behind the washer and dryer. Sure, redoing behind the fridge is quick, but by the time I remember the washer and dryer, that job is going to be bigger than it needs to be. The home maintenance checklist keeps me on track and frees up space in my head to think about other things like …. what printable I’m sharing today.
Because this list just works, all I did was change up the fonts and change the header area. That’s it! I’m working on the keep-it-simple-silly principle.
And of course I made a blank version.
So now you can jot down those monthly, quarterly and annual tasks so you don’t forget about them when the time comes. Or you can follow my list and take most of the thinking right now out of it. This printable is a prime example of why I believe that printables can be a fantastic tool for organizing your home and your time. They help to create a system that allows you to plan for and stay on top of the things you need to do, without having to spend a half hour or so each day trying to make a plan. The more we can automate how we plan things out, the quicker and easier it is to just get them done. And that time saved can be spent on other things, like enjoying a cup of coffee and day dreaming for 15 minutes. I keep a pre-written partial to do list by me while sipping my coffee. It’s a signal to my kids that I’m in planning mode and need to focus. What they don’t know won’t hurt them. Shhhh…..
Don’t forget, if you have a suggestion for changes you would like to see to old printables, or even new printables you would like to see offered here, let me know in the comments, send me an email, or reach out on social media. You never know, I might choose your idea next!
If you’re looking for more ways to stay organized this collection of 25 Must Have Printable Organizers is a great place to start.
How do you keep track of those pesky non-regular home maintenance tasks?
