Blank Home Keeping Checklist Printables

Over the last few months, I’ve been noticing little things around our home that have me scratching my head.  Bit by bit I’m watching our organizing systems start to fail.  It’s been a while since I’ve had to change things up, but something has shifted since the new year started and I just can’t ignore it any longer.  It’s perfectly normal, and, truthfully, I should have been expecting it.  As life changes so do our organizing and time management needs and it’s our job to make adjustments where needed.  So, that’s what I’m going to be focusing on this month, looking at our current systems and figuring out what changes need to be made to make them work for us again.  I’m starting with our housekeeping system because I believe it will be easier to tackle the rest with a smooth running house cleaning schedule.

Since our current system isn’t working as well as I would like, I know I need to take some time to play around with different ideas and figure out what is going to work for us.  To do this I need to toss out my current home keeping checklist and start fresh.  Normally, I’m not a fan of tossing out a routine and starting from scratch, but our current one isn’t working as well as it used to.  I’m spending more and more time playing catch up with the routine than I would like and I know that time would be better spent on other things like playing games with my boys or enjoying a movie with my husband.  You know, the really important things in life.  So here’s what I’m going to do:

Give myself time off.

I know that sounds counterproductive, especially since I just wrote that I’m spending too much time playing catch up, but this doesn’t mean that I’m not going to ignore the housework.  I’m just simply going to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.  I’m working on my spring cleaning right now, so it seems like a great time to sort of reboot the house keeping routine.   I’ve also assigned a deadline.  I’m taking three weeks to evaluate as I go and come up with a system that will be easily sustainable for us.

Figure out what to delegate.

I suck at delegating.  Since I work from home, I tend to feel like I should be the one shouldering most of the home keeping responsibility.  It’s silly, and I know it.  However knowing this about myself is important to figuring out how to move forward.  If I create a house keeping routine that involves everyone in the family right from the start, I’ll be more likely to make sure I follow it.  This means figuring out a chore assigning system or chart of some kind.  I’ve gone into research mode trying to brainstorm ideas, and I’ll be sharing what I find later on this month.

Brainstorm with purpose.

I’m a creative person so my first instinct when looking for a solution is to brainstorm.  I love options and ideas.  And because I’m trying to make things easier, it’s time to look for some new ideas.  On the flip side of that of that, I’m a creature of habit.  What can I say?  My Mom taught me well, and I have a really hard time adjusting to new cleaning routines.  So while I’m surfing the web and perusing Pinterest I’m going to keep in mind that I work a certain way.  I don’t want to reinvent my wheel, I just want to make it work better.

Write it down.

Organizing, time management, and routine building is all about trial and error.  So I’m going to be paying close attention to what is and isn’t work.   I plan to take note of what isn’t working so I can make sure not to waste time.  I say it all the time here on the blog, and I remind myself of it daily, you need to find or create the system that works for you.  With that in mind, when I find something that is working I plan to write it right on my new home keeping checklist.  I can’t very well scribble over top of the stuff that’s already there, so I made a blank version of my home keeping checklist printables.

I really like the layout of the original.  I like dividing the housework into daily, weekly and monthly tasks, but I’m going to have to make changes and shuffle things around for a little bit.  Instead of just waiting to make a new one, I opted turn this one into a blank canvas.

Here's our home keeping checklist printable in a blank version so that you can tailor the tasks to fit your needs.

It’s still the same, just filled with blank spaces ready to be filled out.

Use these blank weekly home keeping checklist pirntables with the home keeping checklist. Print these out and either fold or cut in half and you'll have a fresh checklist for each week.

I made a blank version of the weekly printouts too.  I really like using them and I thought others might too.

And I thought this one might be a good one to test drive something new with.  Last month I put up a survey (find it here) and I was surprised to find that almost half of the people who have taken the survey so far, wanted black and white versions of the printables.  So I’m testing the idea out with the home keeping checklist printable.

I’m really interested in hearing what you think about these ones.

So, for the next couple of weeks I’m going to be gather ideas for chore systems, ideas for stream lining the housekeeping process and by the end of April I’m hoping to have the new systems up and running to give them a really good test drive.  In addition to the housekeeping, I’m also going to be taking a closer look at our meal planning process as well some areas of our home that seem to need some new organizing solutions.  It’s going to be a busy month, but a good month, and I’ll be sharing all my progress here with all of you!  I can’t wait.

Home Keeping Checklist printables are a great way to stay on top of those housekeeping tasks that you need to do on a routine basis. Use them as a cleaning checklist or a general to-do checklist for around the house.

Tell me true – what do you think of the blank printables?  Has anyone else changes things up lately?
